Obsessed with the unseen and unconscious systems of the
city and its people, Takako Hasegawa works in a variety of media to decode
and expose the anatomy of the ordinary and mundane. Her site-specific
response to the space comes from her background in architecture, operating on
its peripheries with art and performance. Takako was born in Tokyo, now living and working in London. She holds an AA Diploma in
Architecture, and an AA Graduate Diploma in Spatial Performance and Art, both
from the Architectural Association, London.
Her works have been
exhibited at London's Cubitt Gallery, the former St. Pancras Chambers, the
Architectural Association, Camden Arts Centre (curated by Richard Wentworth),
and Triangle Space at Chelsea College of Art and Design. She has also
performed at ''Crash! Boom! Bau! Scenography Now! Festival'' in Jena, Germany, exhibited at Bauhaus Dessau,
Germany, and the Theatre Festival in Chefchaouen, Morocco. Featured publications include
Architectural Design, AA Files and a BBC International program 'UK Today'
(1995). Takako currently teaches Foundation in Art and Architecture at the
AA, as well as BA in Interior and Spatial Design at Chelsea College of Art & Design.
